Combivent® nebuliser solution should be started only by a Respiratory Physician. It is less expensive to prescribe salbutamol and ipratropium bromide nebuliser solutions separately but this requires patients to nebulise 4.5 mL instead of 2.5 mL.

Enstilar foam is accepted onto the formulary as another formulation of calcipotriol and betamethasone dipropionate for patients with non-scalp psoriasis. The recommended treatment period for foam (and Dovobet ointment) is 4 weeks. If it is necessary to continue or restart treatment after this period, treatment should be continued after medical review and under regular medical supervision. General measures such as the frequent use of emollients are important in the management of psoriasis. If using other topical products containing calcipotriol in addition to Enstilar, the total dose of all calcipotriol containing products should not exceed 15 g per day.

Beclometasone diproprionate (Clipper) is an additional option after an oral aminosalicylate in mild to moderate left sided or extensive ulcerative colitis (as per NICE CG for ulcerative colitis). It may be considered for patients in whom the use of prednisolone would best be avoided. GPs need to be aware of the 4 week course and the dosing of 5mg daily for Beclometasone diproprionate and may wish to consider seeking advice from the IBD team when prescribing this steroid.

Women of childbearing potential: Treclin should be given to women of childbearing potential only if effective contraception is used during treatment and for 1 month after discontinuation of treatment. Pregnancy: Treclin is contraindicated (see SmPC) in pregnancy, or in women planning a pregnancy. For patients who have been diagnosed with head and neck cancer or undertaken a course of radiotherapy, and who require high-strength fluoride toothpaste as part of the cancer pathway, sodium fluoride dental paste sugar-free 1.1% (5000ppm) may be prescribed on a three-monthly basis by their NHS dentist or GP on the advice of the head & neck cancer, maxillofacial, or restorative dental teams. All other prescribing is discouraged.

If patients have not experienced improvement in their symptoms after 4 weeks of treatment, the patient should be re-examined and the benefit and risks of continuing treatment reconsidered.

Catephen (green tea leaf extract 10% ointment) is accepted onto the formulary as a specialist initiated drug for use in patients not suitable for podophyllotoxin or who have not responded to treatment with podophyllotoxin
