Consider whether this particular iron salt is preferred and if deemed necessary, prescribe generically (sodium feredetate 27.5mg/5ml oral solution sugar-free), considering appropriateness of use as the available product is classified as a food supplement or consider prescribing an alternative iron salt in liquid formulation that is classified as a medicinal product.
Please ensure the patient has no documented intolerance to the iron salt prescribed and advice on dose to be administered is provided to the patient/carer; and
Ensure there is no intolerance to excipients of alternative product selected, note that Galfer Liquid contains milk. For other excipients see SmPC.
