‘Safety First: Five-Year Report of the National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Homicide by People with Mental Illness’ recommends that patients at risk of suicide, including all patients with a recent history of self-harm, who are treated with psychotropic drugs should receive modern, less toxic drugs and/or supplies lasting no more than 2 weeks.
Notes for: Drugs Used In Nausea And VertigoLast edited [12/12/2012 15:39:21]
1. Metoclopramide may induce acute dystonic reactions - these are more common in the young and the very old. Daily dose of metoclopramide should not normally exceed 500 micrograms per kg, particularly for children and young adults.
2. Prochlorperazine is a phenothiazine and hence may cause anticholinergic and antidopaminergic side effects.
3. Betahistine has been promoted as a specific treatment for Meniere's disease and should not be used to treat side-effects of other medication.
4. MHRA Drug Safety Update (May 2012): Domperidone may be associated with a small increased risk of serious ventricular arrhythmia or sudden cardiac death. These risks may be higher in patients older than 60 years and in patients who receive daily oral doses of more than 30mg. Non-prescription domperidone products are not recommended for use in patients with underlying cardiac disease, without medical supervision.
