Notes for: Thiazides And Related DiureticsLast edited [23/11/2011 15:13:34]1. - In the treatment for primary hypertension, indapamide 2.5mg daily (or chlortalidone 12.5mg - 25mg once daily) should be preferred to conventional thiazide diuretics. People already treated with low dose bendroflumethiazide in whom blood pressure is controlled do NOT need to be switched. See NICE Guidance on Hypertension.

When used as such (for longer than one week) the patient should be carefully monitored (renal function, electrolytes, weight and blood pressure). Initial dose should be no more than 2.5-5mg daily when combined with a loop diuretic.
