Sytron (sodium feredetate 27.5mg/5ml) oral solution sugar-free is currently unavailable with an anticipated resupply date of 4 July 2025. Clinicians should: Consider whether this particular iron salt is preferred and if deemed necessary, prescribe generically (sodium feredetate 27.5mg/5ml oral solution sugar-free), considering appropriateness of use as the available product is classified as a food supplement or consider prescribing an alternative iron salt in liquid formulation that is classified as a medicinal product. Please ensure the patient has no documented intolerance to the iron salt prescribed and advice on dose to be administered is provided to the patient/carer; and Ensure there is no intolerance to excipients of alternative product selected, note that Galfer Liquid contains milk. For patients who have been diagnosed with head and neck cancer or undertaken a course of radiotherapy, and who require high-strength fluoride toothpaste as part of the cancer pathway, sodium fluoride dental paste sugar-free 1.1% (5000ppm) may be prescribed on a three-monthly basis by their NHS dentist or GP on the advice of the head & neck cancer, maxillofacial, or restorative dental teams. All other prescribing is discouraged.
